"Across The Creek" 24x18 Pastel

1800. Sold

This pastel and the previous post are two larger pieces that have been keeping me busy in the studio these days. I have painted this cottonwood previously from the other side of the creek on location and in the studio. I thought I would give it a try from this vantage point using pastel which gives it its title.

This painting has sold. It is available as a fine art print. If interested, please

"November Crossroads" 18x24 Pastel

Price On Request

Back in November in North Carolina, I found this scene by accident while heading home from a day of taking reference photos for future paintings . While driving across an overpass to get back on the Interstate, I just happened to glance to my left and saw this view of the railroad tracks. As I was driving away, I realized that I would regret it if I did not go back. So I turned the car around and when I returned, there was no place to park, so I shot some photos from the car.
I'm very happy I decided to turn around.
The location of this scene is the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.

"An August Memory" 11x14 Pastel

800.

This painting is about past summer vacations visiting family in the small farming community of Woodland, California. With daytime temps commonly breaking 100 degrees, many hours were spent poolside playing whatever games my daughters and I would invent. I spent many mornings and evenings traveling to the surrounding fields and farmlands taking photos to get ideas for future paintings such as this. The clouds were not part of the reference photo but I added them to help create the mood of a hot summer evening. This is a recent demonstration from my Wednesday morning pastel class.
