- I am a contemporary professional landscape painter living in southern California. I have been a full time professional artist since 1997 and drawing and painting all of my life. My mediums are oil and pastel. I am inspired and attracted to dramatic light. I especially enjoy backlighted subjects. I enjoy painting from life as well as in the studio. For me, painting every day is as much a mental exercise as it is a physical one. Though I may not be picking up a brush or a pastel on a daily basis, I am continually studying and reviewing my work in order to improve as a painter. For a painting to be successful, my experience has shown that I must first go through a process of preperation which includes as much forethought and study as possible before I apply any paint to a canvas or board.
