"The View Towards Big Pine" 7x5 Oil

One of my favorite things to do besides painting is to shoot photos for reference material. If time allowed, I would prefer to paint a scene on location because the information I gather while painting is much more valuable to me than any photograph could ever capture. Either way, it is invigorating to be outdoors among all of the elements that feed my soul. It is certainly the best way I know to recharge my batteries before heading back to the studio. This painting is from a photo I recently shot while in Bishop, California. It is a scene looking south from Bishop towards Big Pine.
